For some of us, we look forward to the holidays because we love the family gatherings, the music, the lights, and the spirituality of it all.
For others, the holidays are a lonely time, or there is focus on all the commercialism of the season, or you are reminded of certain distressing events that occurred during the holidays in your past.
Either way, see if you can create peace for yourself this holiday season. Find some things you really love about this time of year, and put your focus there. Allow yourself more time for quietude, meditation, walks in the snow or through the palm trees (depending on your climate).
My family of origin had so many rituals during Christmas. Every year our Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning rituals were recorded by my dad on a very old movie camera. Now these movies are on DVD (without sound, of course). When I watched some of them recently I realized just how much we were posing for the pictures. We were recording history, maybe without really living it.
This year, put away the cameras, Facebook, email, and all the other distractions (soft addictions) that keep you away from “this moment”.
Allow “being present” to be your present to yourself this Holiday season. Savor each moment, letting go of thoughts and distractions. Feel the stillness; allow your mind to be quiet and empty. Getting in touch with what’s beyond your thoughts and your distractions can be the most beautiful thing there is.
We can always maintain peace within even when there is chaos all around us. It may take some practice, but it’s totally doable. Remember who you are. You are worthy, lovable, and “good enough” even when you don’t feel like you are. You can raise the vibration of your energy by practicing these things. In doing so you will raise your energy vibration, which puts you “in flow” with the Universe.
So even if you’re uttering “Bah Humbug”, say it with a twinkle in your eye and a feeling of joy in your heart. It’s contagious, this Holiday stuff. It just may bring you peace and joy when you least expect it.
